Book Review - "The Dimension Thieves: Episodes 1 - 3" by Misty Provencher

If you're snowed in (or have any excuse to read... and let's face it, we can come up with any excuse to read) the perfect adventure series to read is Misty Provencher's The Dimension Thieves. I hope you'll check it out and don't forget to enter the giveaway below!

Book Overview

Antythera is the new Earth. Why? Because that’s what President Baro, ruler of the planet, wants to call it. And if you don’t agree, the President will have you Droned. The world has become a much smaller place since the lower and middle classes have been converted to mindless servants. Free will, granted only to the elite, is in jeopardy of complete extinction. But Force Steele, son to one of the President’s highest ranking advisors, can’t live under the thumb of his controlling father, or the President, any longer. Force has dedicated himself to eradicating Droning, but when the President orders the Antidote Gear destroyed—the part of the machine that could free the drones by reversing the program that controls them—all is lost. Lacking necessary materials, there is literally no way in Force’s world to replace the one-of-a-kind gear. Force’s only choice is to partner with shifty mechanic, Calerbius Brown, and embark on a risky mission that will take Force and his rag-tag crew across the lateral dimensions, where they must often steal materials—even from themselves—in order to fix their own dwindling world.

My Take

Wow! This is an amazing tale that had me turning pages quickly to find out what was going to happen next. This is such a unique take on a dystopian society and I absolutely love it. I'm a huge fan of cliffhangers and each book leaves me with the perfect ending to leave me ready for more.

Force Steele is the son of one of President Baro's most trusted advisers. Acting against his father, he sets out to find an end to the Droning that has affected his love interest. He teams up Calerbius and the embark on a dimension ship to find the missing pieces scattered across the various dimensions that they need to rebuild the machine that has Droned most of their world.

Misty Provencher's imagination knows no bounds in these excellent tales. Each story builds and continues where the previous ended. The episode approach allows you to read a chunk of the story one piece at a time, much like watching a weekly television show. While my blog illustrates the the bundle of books 1 - 3, they are available for purchase individually (See Links Below).

If you're a fan of a little sci-fi mixed with your romance, this is a wonderful series and I highly recommend it!

Book Review "Something Great" by M. Clarke

Book Overview

She didn't know what she was missing...until he found her.

Maxwell Knight was dangerously good-looking, seductively charming, and definitely
trouble. He was everything Jeanella Mefferd did NOT need now.

Fresh out of college, life was predictable and comfortable for Jeanella. She had the
strength of her friends, the security of her job, and she was dating a reliable
man; it was all smooth sailing. That was until one night, when she met someone
who made her feel things she'd never felt before--dangerous, heart pounding,
breathless heat. Never imagining she would see him again, Jeanella has no idea what to do when fate steps in and thrusts Maxwell Knight into her life, just as things were
beginning to change around her. When she lands her dream job and travels to New
York for Fashion Week, can she focus on her career instead of on Maxwell?

Will she ignore all the danger signs and jump straight into his arms; or would she
miss out on the chance of finding something great?

* This is a New Adult romance novel recommended for ages 18+ due to sexual content and mature subject matter.

My Take

**I received a free audio book copy of this book for an honest review.

This was such a fun story. And listening to it via Audible was even better. Jenna and Max provided some awesome flirty moments throughout the story and the romance between the two of them fell into a good rhythm throughout the book as the story unfolded.

After college, Jenna starts a new job and finds herself front and center of a job she never thought she would have. Little does she know, her new boss is the man she met earlier who caused her to have feelings she didn't know she could have. The fun of the romance kicks off and I kept routing for the two of them to finally come to terms with each other. But, as with all great tales, we have to have something that gets in the way!

Needless to say, the story line was fun and kept me trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Full of fun and lots of heat, M. Clarke has truly written Something Great.

Book Review - "Fractured Karma" by Nancy Straight

When I thought about this month's topic, I immediately thought of my favorite author, Nancy Straight! Because of Nancy and her first book, Meeting Destiny, I was introduced to a whole world of indie authors with so many wonderful stories to tell. Now, while I love all her books (especially Blood Debt!) I fell in love with her newest work, Fractured Karma. If you haven't read it yet, I hope I can introduce you to it here and that you'll give the Brewer Brothers series a try!

Book Overview

Mark believes he is alone in the world. Rejected by his parents as a child, he spent his childhood bouncing from one foster home to another. The loss of his beloved little brother, Davey, makes him believe he has nothing left to live for. Mark finds himself on a destructive path after agreeing to help a person from his childhood.

A wager made by two strangers sets a chain of events in motion: Mark finds the one person he believed he had lost forever, while he desperately tries to get out of the life he has made for himself. Never having allowed himself to get close to anyone, he can’t understand the connection he has to Libby. Can Mark escape the life he set in motion seven years ago and allow Libby into his life, or is his karma fractured permanently?

My Take

What can I say about this book? It's unlike the other books in Nancy's series and yet she doesn't stray from her ability to weave a story with such passion that you find yourself (literally) laughing out loud and crying throughout the narration.

Fractured Karma is the tale of Mark Brewer. We met him and his brother Dave in book one, His Frozen Heart. Unlike Nancy's other tales where a female lead tells the story, Nancy provides the story from Mark's perspective. This makes for a very good read and interesting tale. I certainly don't want to spoil anything, as many of my friend's curiosity was peeked in the first book while wondering what the story was behind the mysterious Mark. Needless to say, I do not think fans will be disappointed. As I read through the tale, I could not help but feel a real connection with Mark's character. His back story and struggles are compelling and emotional. I think many readers who have been guessing will be surprised when they learn his story.

I'm a huge fan of Nancy Straight's work and have one or two favorites in her portfolio that I absolutely love; however, Fractured Karma has quickly swooped in and taken the lead as my all time favorite. Mystery, romance, adventure, and suspense make for one fun ride and Nancy has found the perfect formula to blend it all together.

I give this book:

Book Review - "Temptation" by Casey L Bond

If you haven't discovered the absolutely wonderful Casey L Bond yet, her newest serial release, Temptation, is the perfect time to get acquainted. Casey's stories are some of the best I've read and I certainly believe they need more attention! Read all about Temptation and don't forget to enter the giveaway below!

Book Overview

My name is Brooklyn Harris. In my life, I’ve done a lot of things I’m not proud of, but I am proud of my life. I just need to figure out what to do with the rest of it. I’m a burlesque dancer at an exclusive Vegas club. That fact, along with the teensy weensy misdemeanor on my record, means the cops don’t exactly trust me when I say someone is stalking me.

But he is. He leaves things everywhere, has invaded my home and my life. Things are starting to escalate and I’m not even going to lie. I’m scared. So my best friend, Sin, has this plan: skip town and let the police work and her dad call in a few favors. Let someone try to find this guy before he finds me. I’m going along with it. But, only until I can figure out how to fight back.

Landing in the tiny town of Swift Rapids, Virginia wasn’t really part of the plan. My admirer found me in New York City, so Sin and I had to make tracks. The sexy cop in town? He’s everywhere. I can’t stop bumping into him and I can’t get him out of my head. Colt Stone is hard as a rock and just as stubborn. I need to get laid, learn to shoot a gun and take my life back—in that order.

My Take

Casey L Bond does it again with this book serial. I can't stress enough how much I loved this book. Better yet, I love how she uses the characters from her Sin series and builds upon the world I've fallen in love with. Brooklyn is the main focus for this set of stories; she met Morgan in the Sin series and they became best friends.

Brooklyn finds herself being stalked and with no clues as to who is behind her mystery gifts and break-ins, Morgan (Sin) and Shane do everything they can to help her. Morgan takes Brooklyn on a trip to New York and they soon find themselves running again, to the small town of Swift Rapids. To add to her complications . . . into her life walks Stone, the local cop who is hot as hell and infuriates Brooklyn to no end. Will Brooklyn survive her stalker and find a new reason to run away from Vegas? You'll just have to read to find out!

I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! And for anyone like me who stays fairly busy, you know a book is excellent when you are staying up WAY later than you should to finish it. These stories are full of adventure, laughs, and hot tension. Definitely a winner in my book!

I give this book:

Luckily for everyone, all four parts to the series were released at once, so you don't have to wait to find out what happens! You can purchase each part separately or buy them all together!

Book Review - "From Gods" by Mary Ting

Book Overview

***2013 InD'Tale RONE Award Finalist for YA****

Did you just see a flash of lightning across the sky on a clear sunny day? It’s not from Mother Nature. It is most likely from Mason Grand, swoon-worthy demigod, one of Zeus’s descendants.

Skylar Rome is supposed to be having the best summer ever before she heads off to college. Little did she know, her whole life was about to change while visiting her cousin. Nearly drowning at the beach due to unknown forces, one of the Grand brothers she’d just met, Mason, saves her life. Cool, collected, mysterious, and dangerously good-looking, Skylar is drawn to him from the start. Though she knows he is the type of guy good girls stayed away from, it seems he is always saving her life, and the attraction was inevitable.

Upon meeting the brothers, strange things begin to happen. When she accidentally kills one of the brothers, it throws her life into turmoil, as they search to find the answers. Implausibly, she gets caught up in a world of the descendants of ancient gods, all who have super powers. Not only is her discovery difficult to accept, evil beings are after her. Running out of time and running for her life, she must unravel a mystery. What do they want from her? Forced into a battle set into motion long before she was born, will she find the answers, or will she die trying?

My Take

This was such an awesome story! I love Mary Ting's take on the gods. From Gods is a very interesting tale and I love how down to earth it was. Skylar and Kayla were so much fun! I felt like I was hanging out with them!

Our book starts with Skylar going to spend a few weeks with her cousin Kayla during the summer. She's pulled over by a hot cop (is there any other kind?) who seems to be a little off. Later, Skylar and Kayla run into Mason, the alleged cop, and Skylar finds herself falling for a boy that she really cannot stand and who treats her like she is no one.

But everything isn't as it seems as Skylar begins to learn about her past. She learns that she and Mason may have more in common than she first thought. Trying to hold on to her secrets, Skylar becomes the target of some very mystical beings, who will stop at nothing to get to Skylar.

From Gods definitely has some surprises and lots of adventure. I'm excited for the next to release.

Book Review - "The Gatekeeper's Sons" by Eva Pohler

Book Overview

Fifteen-year-old Therese watches her parents die. While in a coma, she meets the twin sons of Hades—Hypnos, the god of sleep, and Thanatos, the god of death. She thinks she’s manipulating a dream, not kissing the god of death and totally rocking his world.Than makes a deal with Hades and goes as a mortal to the Upperworld to try and win Therese’s heart, but not all the gods are happy. Some give her gifts. Others try to kill her.The deal requires Therese to avenge the death of her parents. With the help of Than’s fierce and exotic sisters, the Furies, she finds herself in an arena face to face with the murderer, and only one will survive.

My Take

The Gatekeeper's Sons is a very interesting take on a blend of today's world and Greek mythology. Therese is a lovely character, who was persistently optimistic, despite the hurt she is feeling from her parent's deaths. I loved this about her, because in many books, the main character is so downtrodden it becomes annoying. I felt refreshed as Therese would often take a different view than those around her.

Thanatos (or Than as he is called) is absolutely dreamy, and I couldn't help feel bad for this role he has been cast into in his life. His blossoming love for Therese is so much fun to watch and I loved to experience his reactions to so many things we take for granted in our world. Than and Therese's romantic banter is so much fun! His brother, Hypnos, is an absolute hoot and I loved his "playboy" attitude (I really look forward to learning more about him in subsequent books!).

The book started off a little slow at first, but soon picked up the pace and was full of wonder and adventure. I especially loved the last chapters of the book, especially meeting all the different gods and the part they play in the destiny of Therese and Than. I highly recommend this book, especially for those who love Greek mythology!
